CallButler Extension Showing "Offline"

It is possible for a CallButler extension to periodically show as "Offline" in the PBX tab even though it is working fine.  In most cases, this is caused by a setting issue.  Let me explain:
  • In your IP phone, there is a registration setting.  This is the period in which your IP phone will communicate with the CallButler server to say, "Hey, I'm ready to take a call."
  • In CallButler, under the PBX > General Settings tab, there is a setting "Require IP phones to register every X seconds".  This is the period in which CallButler expects the phone to register.
  • If the registration setting on your IP phone is GREATER than the registration setting in CallButler, the phone will periodically show as "Offline" even thought it really isn't.
Example:
  • You set the registration setting on your IP phone to 60 seconds
  • You set the registration setting in CallButler to 30 seconds
  • After 30 seconds, CallButler is expecting the IP phone to "check in", when it doesn't, it will change the status from "Online" to "Offline"
  • After 60 seconds, the IP phone will register with CallButler and the status will change back to "Online"
The IP phone will continue to work without a problem, it just appears to be offline.  To rectify this, make the registration setting in your IP phone(s) to be less than the registration setting in CallButler.
